Gunnar-In Review

Posting some more pics I have of b.g. - "before Gunnar" and the day he was born. I have so many cute ones that I have to put them on here so I can see them. On another note, I came down with a terrible sore throat last night. When I woke up this morning, I could barely swallow. So I drug myself around getting everyone ready and to where they needed to be and ran to the doctor. And I was super excited to find out I have strep. Nice. Strep and a four-week-old baby that is not very happy these days. Not such a great day. I've had better. I'm waiting for the antibiotics to kick in. My poor sweet baby is having really bad gas problems and I think he has some sort of reflux so they have put him on baby Zantac. It's been a rough week around here. I just can stand to see him hurt. Hopefully things will get better. Soon. Please.

About ten days before I had Gunnar.

Posing in my sexy hospital gown.

While they rolled me to the operating room, we passed the elevators and this is who stepped out! Perfect timing!

Holding little-bit for the first time. I was scared I was going to drop him. I have some really good blood/guts pics of me during the csection that are so cool but Kyle didn't think it was appropriate to put them on my blog. Fuddy Duddy.

Thank goodness mom took this photo of me holding him at the hospital because I don't think I have one. Boy, he's sweet.

Meeting his brother and sister for the first time! I hate that I miss this part. They stamped his feet on Kyle's scrub hat, too.

Just waiting for Gunnar!

Fin and "Bubba" as she so affectionately calls him these days.

Slade and brother. He was so happy to get another boy in the family.

These are the cute cookies I had made to give to visitors in the hospital when they came to see Gunnar. I didn't make them but I packaged them myself. :)

Footbal Finale

So we wrapped up Slade's first tackle football season the week after I had the baby. The Patriots didn't make it to the Superbowl, but they won their final game. Slade did so awesome-actually it was one the best games he played the whole season! He had lots of great tackles.

Lincoln, Sawyer, Jackson, & Slade

Run-Through Sign!

The boys liked to run through the sign, trip and fall over each other, roll around on the ground, and tear up the paper. Who's 7 years old, raise your hand???

Last minute advice from dad.

Slade's serious face.

Slade's teacher, Mrs. Greak, even came to see some of her kiddos play!

Jackson is one of Slade's best friends. Same age, same grade, same team.....NOT the same size! I don't think I've ever blogged about this but Finley has a major crush on Jackson and has for about a year now. When Jackson spends the night with us, Finley thinks he is the berries! He is so sweet to her, too, which is funny for a seven year old. I guess Jackson has good practice because his only sibling is an older sister, so he is used to little girls. Actually the last time he spent the night with us, Brandi asked Finley to stay with them but she wouldn't because Jackson was spending the night!!! Jackson is very well behaved and one of my favorite kids to keep!

Halloween 2010

Happy 33rd birthday, Kyle! Sorry I didn't get a pic of you or the other half of your cookie cake. It was really yummy, though. My dear, sweet friend, Beth, went to the trouble of loading up her one year old and going into the mall during the "mall trick or treating" to pick up this cookie for me since I had just come home from the hospital. Yes, I owe her BIG!!!

Cute hat, even cuter baby.

Finley picked out this tiny pumpkin for baby Gunnar at Cracker Barrel before he was born. She has been saving it for him.

Starring................Slade as Mario, Cita as a lamb, Finley as Minnie Mouse, and Gunnar as a 4 day old pumpkin!

Dear Santa, please just send us money this year to replace the brass fireplace cover. GAG!!! Never knew it looked this gross until we posed by it. Hey Smarts, the 1980's called and they want their fireplace cover back................

Sweet baby pumpkin!

And one with Nana!

Happy Halloween....a bit late.

Three Smart Kids

Ok, so I've stuck by my word and posted tonight. We'll see if I can do it each night this week. It's not an easy task-Gunnar is fussing right now-Dad's on duty. A football just went flying by. There's a small blond girl beading necklaces. And I have my third load washing. I'm typing fast!!!

Gunnar.......He's three weeks old today (aka 21 days)! It seems like I was in the hospital just yesterday, but then again, it seems like he's always been here. He likes to be held. Really likes to be held, which means he's already rotten!!! He can still wear his newborn diapers but can also fit into a size 1. Oh my, why do they have to grow so quickly. I've been trying to keep him at home as much as possible since it's germ season, but he made his first appearance at Finley's dance class today when we picked her up. He was a sure hit. All the girls loved him!!! Oh, and Kyle is calling him G.H. and I don't like that. I think he's doing it to make me mad! I don't want him to be called initials.

Finley...........this is what happens when you let your brother drive a car through your hair. Yes, I had to cut the wheels out. She thought it was funny. I told her that it's not going to be funny in the morning when we fix her hair and she has a short sprig sticking up. You would think she'd have learned her lesson with the Christmas hamster..............

Slade.............This is what I found after I asked him to go check and see if the clothes in the dryer were still wet. He came back to report that they were dry and he took them out for me. Awesome! And then I walked into the laundry room. Nice, Slade. I wonder how clean the floor is?!?

Oh, and this is the Big Sis shirt I had made for Finley when Gunnar was born. I don't think we got a really good picture of her that day-she looked so cute. She had on tights, a frilly skirt, and her Twinkle Toe's. And if you are wondering about her hair-she has decided to grow out her bangs. We normally put a cute little clip in it but this is end of the day, post-clip. And a Happy Wednesday to all!!! Oh, and P.S. Slade just puked in the bathroom floor-gotta go!

Finding a New Normal

Ok, so here's the deal. I've been busy. Really busy. I cannot get things done, much less posting on my blog. I really need to catch up-I have so many great pics and things I need to write down for myself so that I can remember them. We've had Halloween costumes, first baths, football season has ended, etc. And I'm behind. So I am going to try(and I use this word lightly because I never can seem to get things accomplished-I'm lucky to get my teeth brushed some days) to post something each night and try to catch up a bit on the Smart happenings. Kyle says we are on a mission to find our "new normal". Funny how you forget all the things that come with a brand new baby!

In the meantime, I just wanted to post a few things today. Baby Gunnar is doing well. He weighed 7lbs. 14oz. at his two week checkup. He looked great and we are so blessed that he is a healthy little baby boy! Kids are still crazy about him! We barely remember what we did without him! Ok, so we slept more, but you can't beat the feeling of a brand new baby and all the wonderful things that he brings to our family.

I do have a certain bone to pick with the little man, though. This baby likes to eat. He is eating every TWO hours and I do mean every two hours. Great for growing Gunnar, but brutal on momma at night. He's having breastmilk and formula(I don't produce large amounts, but we are doing better than any of my other attempts) and the nights can be somewhat rough. He's fine as long as he is full. So sleep is few and far between but I know he will grow fast and the getting up at 12, 2, 4, 6, etc. will be a distant memory......right!?! Kyle is helping but I do admit that I am delirious some nights, and may have been known to let him slide off my shoulder onto pillows and such. Good thing babies come out tough! Ha!

Gunnar is a pretty easy going baby. He does get gassy sometimes but is all-in-all a good baby, as long as 1.)he gets to eat on time 2.)he does not have to sit in a wet diaper-he hates this! and 3.)he is not cold after a bath. He likes to be swaddled and is taking to the bouncy seat this week. He went up to 3 ounces of milk and we do lots of gas drops. His hair is looking strawberry blondish-which is what mine looked like.

Couldn't you just eat him up!!!! He's starting to stretch out the toes of his newborn outfits-so sad, sniff, sniff. And his belly button thingy finally fell off on Saturday when he was 17 days old. I love his hair, his sweet lips, and his chunky feet and hands. Oh, and when Cari was here visiting, she pointed out a dimple! He has a little dimple on the right cheek! I so hope he keeps it-we can see it when does his face in certain expressions.

In a nutshell, we are doing well......and feeling very blessed! And I'm done typing like a mad woman because little man is in the bouncy and now he is needing assistance as we speak!!! LOL! Have a fabulous Tuesday. I cannot believe it's Tuesday. What date is it????????

Pumpkin Happenings

Although I was merely days from having baby Gunnar, we still managed to get the pumpkin patch and carve two pumpkins.

The final product-I think they looked pleased about it!

Big Dad arrived just in time to dish out his carving expertise.

If I weren't so tired, I would have washed these seeds, added salt, and roasted them. But I didn't.

Finley assisting.

To my surprise, they really did a great job scraping out their pumpkins. They were excellent scrapers!

She worked and worked.

He worked and worked.

They worked and worked and worked.

Oh, and this was just a cute pic of Finley before school one morning that I had to put on here simply because she looked cute.

Kyle, Finley, and Slade posing at the pumpkin patch.

And my stomach was about the size of a pumpkin. A big one, not that little one. Aren't they quite the little jokesters..........

And Baby Makes Five!!!

I would like to introduce you to..............Gunnar Hayes Smart

We really love him! I think we're gonna keep him! Best little surprise I've ever had!
