Smart Art

I had to document a few things the kids made this week!

Slade is on a Lego kick and made an ipod with attached headphones. Love it!!!

Finley is studying space and brought home this phases of the moon diagram-out of Oreos! I thought this was such a cute idea! And tasty!

Finley also celebrated 100 days of school. Here is a self portrait Finley Smart at age 100. She apparently will still make accessorizing a priority in the year 2106!

And Mr. Gunnar worked really hard on his Easter egg at school. This cracked me up-no pun intended!

Ft. Lancaster Lunch

One day during Spring Break, we had a picnic by Ft. Lancaster!

It was a quick picnic. Nana had to wear her head scarf because it was windy.

Our food tried to blow off the table.

It was kinda chilly but the view was nice. Mom kept yelling at Slade for getting too close to the edge.

Finley chased Gunnar around with her shoes untied.

We all chased Gunnar around. There's no photos of mom or me because we didn't look too nice. Mom would be mad if I put the pic of her I have. You're welcome, mom.

Finley cried because she thought we were going to let Gunnar walk off the hill. It was a slightly stressful picnic, actually.

Nobody wanted to pose. Ok, so it was cold, windy, kids crying, kids running, kids getting yelled at, food blowing off. I would say this was out of the ordinary, but it's actually pretty much like it is when you go anywhere with the Smart Family. We like to keep it real.

I have high hopes for a Norman Rockwell summer picnic.........yeah, whatever!

Cuteness

I mean, is there anything cuter? Nope, there's not. I just want to touch his sweet hair. And his nose. And cheeks.........

Nana & G

Did anyone else's 82-year-old grandmother push their one-year-old around the yard during Spring Break? Mine did. Oh, she also beat us at Scrabble.

Gunnar is 16 months!

Oh, my baby turned sixteen months. Wow, can it really be? I just think he's really acting big since Christmas. I love watching his little personality, but yet I'm so sad he's getting so big, so quickly.

Weight - 25.5 lbs, 40th percentile

Height - 31.5 in (I think), 40 percentile

Diapers - size 4

Clothing - mostly 18 mo, some 24 mo

Milk - still has 3 bottles a day (I will go on record and say that I will not let him go to preschool with a bottle!!!)

Food - he is in a non-eating stage right now but usually is a pretty good eater. Some favs are cheese, raisins, blueberries, toast, beans, and has an obsession with Dum Dums. He screams for suckers and it drives me nuts!!!

Toys - my mop, brooms, vacuums, balls, Lego blocks, rags, video cases, his push duck, brushes, and markers. He loves to push strollers, laundry baskets, stools, toys, pots & pans.

Books - favs are his tractor book, animal books, Ducky book, and his rainbow book.

Words - talks quite a bit! Some things he says: duckies, ice (nana taught him this because he drinks out of her Sonic cups), Nana, everyone is Mama to him, backpack, ba-ba(for bath), tee tee, smacks his lip with means dog, I eat, boom (broom), boom (also means mop), Dada, B (for Brandi), Tita (Cita) just to name a few!

Sleeping - the boy is not a great sleeper, but he does sleep all night the majority of the time although he wakes up and stirs all night. I've finally been able to not hear every cry he makes during the night, so I sometimes get some solid nights of sleep. He does cry almost every night around midnight-he just can't sleep through that hour for some reason. I'm pretty strict with his nap schedule or he gets very cranky. He usually goes to bed about 7:30 and wakes up anywhere between 5:30-7:00 with a two hour nap after lunch. It's not perfect but we have come a long, long, long, long, long, way!

Likes - cleaning, baths, being outdoors, opening drawers, and going anywhere with Daddy. He really loves Kyle. He love his sissy, too.

Dislikes - not getting his way-he has figured out how to throw fits this last month, the doctor's office-hates for them to even look at him, sun in his eyes, and driving through the carwash!

I cannot reiterate enough how much the boy likes to clean!

I found this baby mop at a toy store and he likes it, but it's still not quite as good as the real mop.......

Poor Dude has a sister, what can I say?!? One thing that he does that I love is when he wants you to get something for him, he runs up to you, starts to jabber something and points or pulls on your hand. When you get up, he takes off running to show you what it is he wants! He has learned to demand our attention at a young age!!! Ha!

Finley decided that it was a good idea to let G hold a snow globe. Didn't turn out well. He dropped in on the tile floor and then crawled through the glass before I could get to him. He was scared to death of the bandaids because he has only had a bandaid when he received a shot at the dr's office. He acted worse about the bandaids that about the cuts!!!

The baby curls that melt my heart!!! I never want to cut them-we may have a baby hippie! LOL!

Cita bought him some new swim duds-he's all set! G is a sweet boy. He does have a fiery temper and is sometimes a cry baby, but his adorable smile makes up for his sometimes crabbiness. He knows what he wants! He is very busy. He will come up and hug you, lay his head on your shoulder. My favorite thing is when he comes up to me, smiles, and pats my leg-it's too stinking sweet. He goes a million miles an hour and is really good at climbing, running on the trampoline, and getting in to every possible mess he can! He loves to throw dirt. I can't wait until he can be outdoors this summer-he's going to have a blast! Oh, Gunnar, you are my sweet boy!!!

Lego King & A Beautiful Day

Can I just start by saying that Sunday was the prettiest day we've had in a really, really long time. It was the perfect temp-a little crisp but still warm in the sun-sorta like a great fall day.

This was the sky-it was so blue and not one cloud to be found. We went to church and had lunch at Texas Roadhouse with Brandi's family. When we got home, we couldn't get our church clothes off fast enough. I put Gunnar down for a nap and the kids went to the park with Brandi to feed the ducks and play. I wanted to wait for Gunnar to wake up so I crawled in bed and read for a little while.

When G woke up, I put a short sleeved shirt, jumped in the car, and headed to the park! He went nuts when he saw the ducks. He was saying, "ducky, ducky, ducky!" Finley was mad that I wouldn't watch her swing but I was frantic trying to watch Gunnar beside the water. I thought he was going to go straight into the water-I couldn't keep my eyes off of him for a second! I finally just gave up and went back home with him because he was making me a nervous wreck so close the water to get "ducky"!!! S & F stayed longer with Brandi and she didn't bring them home till after 5. I went in the backyard and just sat in the sunlight while G played. It was glorious. I have felt like a caged animal with all my kids in this house this winter. We needed this beautiful day so badly. Now if only God would send us some rain!!!

Now, let me introduce you to the Lego King of Lubbock! Slade has been saving his money for a while now and he had me order this cool Space Shuttle Lego. I have to tell this funny story. First of all, he had $100 saved, but I reminded him of tax. He borrowed a dollar from Finley, in which he would pay her back the dollar plus 25 cents in interest! Haha. Then Kyle loaned him the rest of the tax. When I ordered it online from Target, the total was like $107.24. He came over and handed me $107 and a quarter and said, "I guess you can keep the extra penny." Oh, well thanks, my generous son!!! Too funny!

The package was waiting for him when he got home from school on Friday afternoon. So off he went to his room, never to be heard from for at least an hour. He had to go to a slumber party that afternoon, so he couldn't work on it. But when he got home from the slumber party and his basketball game on Saturday, I think he worked on it for at least 6-7 hours, maybe more. That night after nine, he walked in and it was finished! He was so proud and so were we!!! It had over 1200 pieces and said for 14 years or older!!! It is definitely the most difficult Lego he's ever built.

Chicken Pesto Pizza

I'm trying to avoid tomato sauce so my new favorite substitute has been pesto sauce! It is great on multi-grain pasta and it's really tasty on pizza.

I was craving some pizza and this is what I came up with-pesto chicken pizza! Yummy!

I love wheat crust and this worked great.

I've tried many different pestos and basically I like them all. I chose this one on the pizza grocery store trip and it tasted great. I've also looked into making pesto-the recipe looks easy! Maybe next time. All I did was spread the pesto on the wheat crust, added some cooked shredded chicken, fresh sliced mushrooms, and grated cheese. I think I had a Mexican blend of cheeses in the fridge that day, but I would use a mozzarella blend next time. I baked it till it looked crispy on the edges and it was very yummy! I want to try several different combinations in my future pizza making!
