My 5th Grade Smith Star

Slade wrapped up his 5th grade year. He had a great six year run at Smith and he enjoyed all his experiences. He's had so much fun and learned so many things and grown so much. We were blessed with some wonderful teachers. Stars Shine Bright at Smith!!!

We were so proud-Slade received the Overall Academic Achievement Award!

Every 5th grade mom received a rose. They also had a great slide show. I may have been a little sad....

This is my boy on the last day of school.

Slade and Kaleb. They started school together in Kinder and walked to school with each other the first day of school six years ago.

And decided to end their very last day of elementary school with one last walk. The same sidewalk where it all started! Goodbye Elementary, Hello Jr. High.........................................

Lucky 13th Anniversary

13 years ago tonight I said I do to this handsome man-he was in a tux. And dang it if he doesn't get even more handsome with age! We were young things and had no idea what were doing! Ha! It's been a fun and crazy ride. That night, I had no idea how dang cute our kids would be..........LOL!

We got to spend several nights without children, thank you mom & dad. On Thursday night, we actually picked steak and cheesecake, brought it home, and ate on the back porch and relaxed in the hot tub. It was perfect! So quiet without three nuts running around!

Today my honey went to pick up the kiddos from the grandparents and brought these awesome flowers back to me!!! He's a good one! I picked a good one! Love him more every day. Happy 13th Anniversary to us!!!

Dresser Redo

I've been working on the master bedroom and have been keeping my eye out for a long dresser. This winter I went to an estate sale with my friend, Kelly, and she convinced me to snatch this up. I'm so glad I did because it really was the perfect piece for my room. I wanted something a bit "scrolly" and long and did not have to have a mirror attached. This one came with a mirror but it was not connected.

 Here is the original. Before......

And After!!! I decided to leave off the middle doors and use it as shelves you can see. This was my first experience using Annie Sloan chalk paint. I wasn't too fond of the green until I finished it off with a dark wax. The wax made it look sharp, more like an apple green, which is what I was going for. I wanted a funky piece for my room that would really pop! I am pretty happy with the results.!

I loved the original handles, so I just spray painted them. They are so detailed and I love that. The best part about the dresser, other than it is a solid & well made, is that I found a receipt inside from Furrs Cafeteria from July, 1965. You know I love all things vintage!!!

Finley's First Grade Recognition

Finley on the morning of her first grade recognition. She picked her dress which is code for-she did not want to wear what I had picked out. Ahhh, the teenage year should be fun. We put sponge rollers in her hair the night before, but it was so crazy, I made her put it in a curly ponytail.

Finley and her teacher, Mrs. Sypert. She is a wonderful woman and such a blessing to all the kids in her classroom. We were so fortunate to have her this year!!!

A little musical entertainment. She did a great job!

Mrs. Sypert presenting Finley with her award.

Finley and Coach Scott-every kid at Smith loves Coach Scott!!! He is such a kind soul.

Finley received her award in Reading Fluency! Yay! She had a wonderful year!!!

My two nuts after play day. Our day was rained out, so they moved all the bouncy houses and activities into the school. It was a wild, crazy day! There were kids all over that school. And on a sentimental note, this is the last photo I have of these two walking to the car together after school. Slade goes on to jr. high next year and they won't ever be in the same building again the rest of their school years. Sniff, sniff.

Would you ever guess that there was a face painting booth??? The best part of the day was when I went down to Finley's room to deliver the afternoon snacks. Finley ran up to show me the note that was left in her locker. Slade had slipped in to her room at some point and left her a yellow Post-It note that said, "to Finley, love Slade" Oh my goodness, they really do love each other, even if they just show it about once every two months!!! She was excited to get a note from her brother.

Fifth grade boys last play day at Smith. It's been a good 6 years!!!
